Two years ago, Shiseido was smart enough to enlist Dick Page as its artistic director and to consult on the products, and now the fruits of his beauty wizardry are being revealed. First up is Perfect Rouge, a collection of 20 lipsticks (shown, $29 each, at department stores) that are segmented into safe (pinky brown) and fearless (shocking fuchsia) shades. Page made certain that when applied, the colour you see in the tube is exactly what you get on your lips.
Chic and Cheap
When Toronto-based makeup artist Simone Otis consulted on Joe Fresh Beauty (from $4, joe.ca), she saw to it that even though the price point is low (woo!), the integrity is there. “The foundations are buildable and lightweight, the powders aren’t chalky, and the concealers aren’t cakey,” she says. Her pick? The cheek tint. “The colour and texture is exactly what I imagined.”
FASHION Loves
A throwback to old-school fragrance (sans alcohol), The Cream Perfume Company takes concentrated fragrance absolutes and essential oils and renders them into solid form. Housed in residual Canadian birch, the “nuts” ($20 each, at health stores) come in 10 scents, including vanilla, raspberry and rose.
Meow Mix
Hello Kitty fans, get ready to pounce. The pop-culture phenomenon is making a cameo at M.A.C for a limited-edition pair of complete makeup looks (one sweet, the other sexy). Kitty Kouture features Swarovski crystal–encrusted compacts and covetable accessories (from $13, at the Bay), but it’s Kitty’s face, embossed on lipstick bullets and pressed powders, that’s sure to have you purring.—Jennifer Laing
