  • Colored my BLACK hair (AND SCALP!!!) w/ REVLON Color Silk (Medium Brown)?

    Hair - 8 hours ago

    Additional Details

I used 2 boxes for my thick, shoulder length hair, completely saturating it, including scalp! I then piled the hair on top of my head for the recommended time. My SCALP burned like crazy, but I kept on until I rinsed it all out w/ hot water, 27 minutes later. Not happy w/ seeing some breakage. I learned my lesson: don't color scalp! And don't rinse w/ hot water!! Now rinsed and conditioned, my scalp is ok, but any long term damage I should know about ??? (I relaxed my hair 2 months ago, and colored w/ REVLON Color Silk (Dark Brown) a month ago. . . Thank you.

  • What's the difference in going to a day spa for a mani/pedi than going to a nail salon?

    Other - Beauty & Style - 10 hours ago

    Additional Details

My girlfriend went to a nail salon yesterday and this asian man did her nails. Of course they were nice and stuff. She had me tag along and I didn't even know what was going on. I don't like the smell of nail shops, I guess it's the acrylic maybe? That's what I was told. Anyway last time she went to a day spa an paid $40 for a pedicure and @ at the nail shop she paid $20 bucks for a "full set with french tips" whatever that is. I seen on the price list that a pedi starts @ $20. So what I am trying to figure out is why go to the day spa and pay 2x more than you would @ a typical nail shop? I'm a guy so Im beyond clueless... lol guess its a lady thing.

SWEET BEAUTY DEALS FOR HOT SUMMER DAYS

By Wing Sze Tang

THE SUN SHIELD

The best anti-aging formula found in every beauty editor's arsenal is a daily sunscreen, rain or shine. Levels of UVA rays (the wrinkle-causing, collagen-warping type) don't vary much by season, and UVB rays can cause sunburns even on a cloudy day. Dial up your SPF to suit your degree of sun exposure.

FLARE PICK: 1. Mark C-Thru-U Beautifying Sheer Tint, $10, boasts SPF 15 and antioxidants such as grape-seed extract and vitamin C, so you can lighten up on your foundation without letting down your guard

THE MELT-PROOF MAKEUP

Easy to stash in the teeniest purse for touchups, the pen-sized Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Talc-Free Per-fecting Mineral Concentrate, $15.80, keeps midday oil slicks at bay.

THE SMOOTH OPERATOR

For your most touchable summer gams, toss the razor and de-fuzz with an at-home no-strip wax kit such as Nair Cire Divine Sensual Berries, $17. To get pro-quality results sans a spa bill, wait till your hair is at least a quarter of an inch long. Apply the wax in the direction that hair is growing, then remove it the reverse way with a swift flick of the wrist.

THE SUMMER SCENT

A potent perfume in July is as apt as turtlenecks in Tahiti. Lighten up with delicate fragrances fit for the sultry season-a little goes a long way.

FLARE PICK: Narciso Rodriguez for Her Cruise Collection, $95, updates the original honey-flower and am-ber perfume with a summery spin: the same scent in an eau de toilette, an iridescent fragrance spray and a hy-drating body mist.

THE MANE TAMER

High humidity and parched, sun-fried hair is a recipe for frizzy disaster. Keep it sleek with a moisturizing styling product such as John Frieda Frizz-Ease Straight Fixation Smoothing Crème, $10.50. Before blow-drying, work a dime-sized dab through locks, from the middle down to the tips, and skim a bit over the surface of dry hair to kick up the shine.

THE GLOW GETTERS

Quench skin from head to toe for the smooth canvas you need to achieve a flawless faux glow. We love airy, instantly absorbed hydrators, such as The Body Shop Moroccan Rose Body Milk, $16.50, chock-full of rose, ses-ame seed, olive and babassu oils. For an extra-golden effect, sweep cheeks, forehead and nose with Quo Sun Kissed Bronzing Powder, $20.

THE BODY BUFFER

For instant gratification, nothing brightens lacklustre skin faster than a gentle scrub. Perk up a dull complex-ion with aloe vera-rich Lise Watier Gommage Bora Bora Exfoliating Gel, $21.

THE PEDI HUE

Dip into vintage orange, coral or red. Mimic a pro pedi by using a base coat and a topcoat, allowing each layer to dry for two minutes.

FLARE PICK: OPI Nail Lacquer in In My Back Pocket, $11. 26. L'Oréal Colour Riche Lipcolour in British Red, $11.

THE HOT LIPPY

Try the tone-on-tone method by wearing a bright, juicy pink lipstick that's ripe for summer.

FLARE PICK: Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Lipstick in PK 359, $30.

It's mid-September, cookies. Don't you think that it's past time to update the column? Seems to me that the Lifestyle section runs too slowly to be of much value. I keep checking in and seeing the same old same old.

Oh, by the way, it was a good article. I'm just pointing out that nothing here was a "deal", esp. $95 for a PERFUME.

I thought that the title of this article was "Sweet Summer DEALS". If you add up all of the products in this article, it comes to $258.06, plus tax, I'm sure. Some of us don't have that much money to spend on beauty products.
