Looking to enhance your features without having to rely on mascara, eye and lip pencils ever again? Whether it’s longer lashes, more defined eyes or fuller lips, many women are turning to permanent makeup as an alternative to their daily beauty regimen. Divine.ca gives you the low-down on some popular treatments in this ever-increasing cosmetic trend.

Eyelash Enhancement
A synthetic lash is adhered to each individual natural lash of your own to create fuller, longer, thicker-looking lashes (think hair extensions but for your eyelashes). The extensions last approximately 60 to 90 days, the typical amount of time it takes for a person’s natural eyelash to fall out.
How much? Eyelash extensions range from $150 to $200 for the initial application. “Refill” or “touch-up” applications cost about $75 per hour and are recommended for every three to four weeks to keep lashes looking full.

Eyes
Permanent makeup, also known as micropigmentation or cosmetic tattooing, for the eyes requires the use of sterilized, disposable needles to deposit small molecules of colour into the basal layer of the skin, thereby “tattooing” eyeliner onto one’s face. Permanent eyeliner helps to provide depth, colour, definition and the illusion of fuller lashes.
How much? Expect to pay approximately $300 for either upper or lower eyeliner or about $500 for both.

Eyebrows
Similar to the eyeliner technique, the eyebrows are softly feathered with fine lines and hair strokes to create a natural-looking contour. This procedure is particularly popular for women who have light or sparse brows and are looking to create a natural-looking appearance of hair in the brow line.
How much? The cost of getting brows done is typically between $300 and $400.

Lips

Lip liner, lip colour or both is “tattooed” onto the lips in the same method as getting permanent makeup for the eyes in order to add definition, the illusion of fullness and colour to the lips. Popular lip colours tend to be neutral and light for an au-naturel look as opposed to deep reds or purples which are artificial in appearance.
How much? Lip liner costs about $400 and full lip colour approximately $600.

If you’re considering cosmetic tattooing, get referrals of qualified permanent makeup artists from your dermatologist. Ask all the questions that concern you about the procedure and request to see pictures of the artist’s previous work.
