Q: Holiday makeup always seems to be metallic and sparkly, which is pretty but sometimes when I see other girls wearing it, it looks kind of tacky. What's the trick?
A: I know you've heard this line over and over again but nothing could be more true about glittery makeup: Less is more. Try a colourful metallic eye shadow or eyeliner (think turquoise or purple) only applying it close to the lash line. If you're a glitter junkie, dial it down and wear just a sprinkle up to your crease, leaving the rest of your eyes bare (check out the look at Sonia Rykiel's fall fashion show at left). Metallic eyeshadows like bronze, copper and silver always fall within good taste, however if you're averse to going bold, buy sheer formulations that will give you the hint of glimmer you're looking for. TIP: Want to glamour-ize a matte taupe eyeshadow? Add a hint of gold shimmer on the inside corner of your eyes.
