What inspired the beauty look behind the Alice Temperley Spring 2008 collection?
A 30's girl - I would say that is where the look came from.
How did you create the glow on the models for Alice Temperley this season?
All Over Gloss by M.A.C. And the reason it's called All Over Gloss is because basically it's not sticky so it just goes on very smoothly, so you can use it on any part of your skin. It gives you that sporty, sexy, hot skin look.
What's the olive oil sheen spray for?
We're mixing it in with the All Over Gloss to put highlights on the body.
What about the lipstick? It's so bold and bright this season.
The lipstick is from M.A.C. We're using a blue-er orange and blue-er pink (Try M.A.C Lipstick in Morange or M.A.C. Heatherette Lipstick in Hollywood.) Pro Beauty Tip: If you're tanned or have a darker complexion, stick with an orangey hue. If you're pale, try a pinkish hue. Are you applying the lipstick with a brush or are you lining lips first?
We are lining first to create a perfectly shaped mouth.
What's going on the eyes and the cheeks?
The eyes have one coat of black mascara (on the top only) and an olive gloss on the lid of the eyes, through the eyebrows, and on top of the cheekbones.
Do you have any tips for more demure girls who want to wear bright lipsticks?
I would say apply the liner and lipstick and then blot really well. This technique will create a very pretty stain, which is much softer. I think it looks especially great with tanned skin and boyish hair - in a way it's like old Hollywood in a new rave way.
What else have you been using that's new?
M.A.C Paint pots (for the eyes)
What do you like about the paint pots?
The creamy texture - they stay on and dry without creasing. They're so foolproof and easy to use. And they come in gorgeous colours like tobaccos and bronzes. You can create a wonderful smokey, sultry eye much quicker and easier than you could with powder.
Do you have a favourite salon?
My favourite beauty salon is in New York - the Tracy Martyn Salon.
What about a trainer?
You know what darling, I wear high heels. I don't need a trainer. That's it, high heels.
Was there anything from the Temperley collection that you want to pick up for spring?
I really have my eye on a kind of gold-y, silvery dress (pictured on the left) that is just so cool and fabulous. And then there was a black jumpsuit (pictured on the right) with lace black arms and shorts with a belt round it that was just fabulous. Those two pieces definitely.
Who would you consider the most influential person in your career?
Makeup artist Mary Greenwell - she has always been an incredible mentor to me. She was one of the first supermodel makeup artists. It was her, Linda and all the girls. She inspired me to become a makeup artist when I was 11. And the other person I would say is stylist Katie Grand. Together, we've created all these amazing stories and campaigns for designers like Louis Vuitton. We've crossed boundaries together and have created trends, so she's been inspiring to work with. We started together when we were 19.
