Ice, ice, baby

Three Toronto entrepreneurs create jewellery for the nightclub set.

By Marissa Daniels

Whoever declared that one must choose a single career path never met Michael Kimel. A savvy party-promoter since high school, Kimel, now 22, has added jewellery entrepreneur to his resume. In 2006, the same year he opened his first nightclub, Toronto’s Cheval, Kimel founded IceRok Jewelry (icerok.com) with fellow trendsetters Russell Gozlan, 24, and Michael Wainstock, 26. The line, inspired by the nightlife and its fashion-forward denizens, includes pieces for men and women and has already built a name for itself among both ordinary folk and A-list celebs. (Headline regulars like Lindsay Lohan, Lauren Conrad and DJ Steve Aoki are fans.) Success has come quickly to the trio: Only a year after launching, IceRok collaborated with Roots and L.A.’s Corpus Clothing and the line was featured in the gifting suite at this year’s MTV Movie Awards.

For fall, the guys are introducing two new collections, IceRok Redux, which offers of-the-moment designs in silver with a vintage-y silver finish, and Biko for IceRok, a collaboration with artist Corrine Anestopoulous featuring feminine pieces in 14-karat gold set with diamonds and sapphires. Additionally, cult favourites from IceRok’s original collection such as the angel wings and lion head key necklaces will still be available this upcoming season. The best thing about IceRok? With a wide array of styles, both contemporary and classic (from $75), the line has something for everyone to “rok” this fall.
