"Whatever. Just don't spend too much," was my dad's response.
"Thanks. That doesn't help me, you know," I said, rolling my eyes. I then called my mom for some suggestions.

I adore my father, but trying to buy gifts for him is like pulling teeth. I could surprise him, but in my family we tend to do a list of things and then pick an item off the list. That way, everyone's happy and it cuts down on returns. Not on the gift list are:
Ties - he doesn't wear them every day.
Golf-related paraphernalia. He doesn't play.
Tech stuff - he buys that for himself or my brother buys him something.
Decorated or peronalized anything. No, we're all too old for that.
I know a gift isn't the most important thing to get dad. The important thing is we spend time together - usually over a roti lunch. But I like to get him something he wouldn't buy himself.
What are you planning to get your father for Father's day? Or are you trying something new this year?
