  • My friends likes me...but I don't like him!? Help!?

    Singles & Dating - 5 hours ago

    Additional Details

Hey! :) Ok, my friend has a crush on me and he's constantly flirting with me. He's previously really really liked a good friend of mine (for a long time, too), and I'm just not comfortable with that fact. Also, I'm not sure if I would be attracted to him even if he had never liked my friend. He's really nice and I don't want to lose him as a friend...How do I make him see that his behavior is a little out of line, and how do I tell him that I don't like him? I don't want to be mean or break his heart or anything... Thanks!! :D He's told both a mutual friend and me that he likes me. =/

  • What to do for friend on anniversary of her father's death?

    Friends - 6 hours ago

    Additional Details

My best friend's father was murdered three years ago, and the anniversary of his death is coming up in the middle of November and I was trying to come up with some ideas as to what I could do for her and her family. I'm very close with them, but it's hard to think of something, given the situation. Does anyone have any ideas about what I could do? Thank you! WHOA. Some people are taking a nice gesture as something mean. There's a nice way to explain how you feel, making someone feel as if they're doing something bad, when only trying to help, isn't it. I in no way shape or form meant as a way to "celebrate" I simply only wanted ideas as to what I could do for her that day to get her mind off of it.
  • What should I do about this girl?

    Singles & Dating - 6 hours ago

    Additional Details

She took pictures of the cross country team which is how I met her, and she came and ate dinner with some of the team including myself, and I sat by her. So I know her enough to say whats up in the halways etc but not really to ask her to hang out. Thing is I think shes cute and nice, and shes not too popular and shes kind of shy/quiet. Only thing is I cant get her off my mind even though nobody knows i feel this way and i only know her that well. So how can i get her off my mind or get to know her better? Do I ask her to the movies with a group or something? We have had a couple one-on-one conversations and the rest in a group for a short time. Also when is a couple considered "talking"? We are both 17 and seniors in high school
  • How do I stop myself from having sex?

    Singles & Dating - 6 hours ago

    Additional Details

whenever my boyfriend and i see each other, we have sex multiple times. if i tell him that i don't want to, he respects that, but it always seems like i'm the one asking for it. i don't know how to not want it so badly. whenever we're together, we're almost always alone at my house or at a hotel, so it's really hard not to, and i always end up doing it anyway. afterwards, i don't have any regrets, but i just wish i didn't give in that easily. does anyone have any advice?
  • What can I say to my parents to convince them that I am old enough to go on dates with my boyfriend?

    Family - 6 hours ago

    Additional Details

My boyfriend and I have been going out for about 5 months and just kissed a couple of days ago... It was just a peck, but still I was excited. Lol, but to the serious problem… Today and many other times he has asked me to the movies (just me and him), and my parents don’t want me to go on dates with just me and a guy.. When he asked me today, I was so happy and almost said yes without thinking about what my parents would say... What can I say to my parents to convince them that I am old enough to go on dates? By the way, I am 13. =D Thanks!! (My parents know I have a boyfriend, they just don’t want me going on dates with just him and me)

The greening of sex

Posted Tue, May 20, 2008
POST A COMMENT »

Green is the new black. And, in these days of "inconvenient truths," even our sex lives can use a little environmental consciousness.

Personally, I'm a big fan of sex and the environment, or more specifically, in the environment. Nothing feels quite as fantastic as doing it in the great outdoors with the sun beaming down on your naked bodies. Except maybe doing it outdoors on a warm summer night under the flattering light of a full moon or a romantic starlit backdrop.

Maybe it's just in my Dutch blood. According to ananova.com, outdoor sex is so hot in Holland, Dutch Rangers are growing stinging nettles and thistles to stop all the outdoor sex, even full-on orgies, going on in national parks, picnic areas and other public places.

But outdoor sex can leave an impact.

That lovely patch of field may look inviting, but, according to gorp.com, an outdoor recreation resource site, all that rolling around can lead to crushed ground cover and compacted soil. Instead, they suggest, find yourself a nice bed of duff, the dense layer of decayed leaves and pine needles on the forest floor, as it restores itself more easily.

Beware of your sex noise pollution, too, they add: "Yells and moans carry over open water and across meadows but will disperse quickly among trees."

And while I also understand the appeal of jumping butt naked into a lake or river after getting all hot and sweaty with your sweetie, forgo the soap. Even phosphate-free or biodegradable soap is harmful to natural water sources.

Needless to say, tissues, condoms or any other sex trash should never be left behind. Not only is it gross to stumble across a used condom on that wonderful family hike, animals can swallow or even become entangled in them. As with camping, if you packed it in, pack it out.

Environmental consciousness isn't just about having good, clean sex outside. As we all become more aware of the things we put into our bodies, it makes sense to think about ALL the things we put into our bodies. Like sex toys.

According to Toronto-based sex shop Come As You Are, the sex toy industry is getting wise to this, pledging to stop producing sex toys containing phthalates (a potentially toxic chemical added to jelly rubber toys) in the coming years.

While this may be more marketing strategy than genuine concern, says a recent CAYA press release on the topic, it's still good news for health and environmentally conscious consumers.

Of course, says CAYA, there are plenty of smaller, sex-positive manufacturers who've been on the environmental sex toy case for years (CAYA itself has been quietly introducing environmentally conscious products for the past five years) and genuinely care about the pleasure and health of their customers. They also favour manufacturers who provide fair wages for their workers and use manufacturing processes that have less negative environmental impact.

Here are some tips from CAYA to help you make socially and environmentally responsible sex toy purchases:

  • Avoid phthalates and latex. As latex allergies become more common and concerns over the environmental and health impact of phthalates have emerged, toys made of non-latex, phthalate-free silicone and elastomer are your best bet. But beware — a toy doesn't have to be 100% silicone to be labeled ?silicone.' Ask before buying.
  • Avoid parabens. Often contained in lubes. Like phthalates, the jury is still out on their impact on humans, but you can avoid them by simply reading the ingredients. Look for Canadian-made and organically sourced, preservative-free massage oils and lubricants.
  • Switch to rechargeable batteries or buy plug-in vibrators.
  • Go animal free. Come As You Are sells Glyde, the only Vegan condom, as well as a line of Vegan restraints and harnesses.

Follow this advice and sex will feel good, in a whole new way.

I agree with the concept, but lets start with the real problems first like driving an SUV, or not recycling. Lets not take away focus on our pleasurable personal moments. We all know these are few and far between

"Dutch Rangers are growing stinging nettles and thistles to stop all the outdoor sex, even full-on orgies, going on in national parks, picnic areas and other public places" WHAT?? I am from Holland, believe me I have never heard of this. Weird article.

I don't see why you are all so upset, I'm quite sure the article is meant to be a little ridiculous. You can practically hear the sarcasm in the first half about sex in the outdoors (or perhaps I am just hypersensitive to sarcasm?). I think the last part has some good points though; why not have products that are toxin- and latex-free? Just because most of us probably don't use a lot of these products on a regular basis doesn't mean we don't use them at all, and it's important to make even the small changes in our lives to help protect the environment.

Hi Josey, I have come across condoms on the beach, some of these idiots need to clean their act up. Say may I come over & help you mess your bedroom up a bit? You seem to be my kind of girl.

mmmm...the last thing I would be worried about would be if the grass was a little flattened...LOL...I'd think it would be terribly embarrassing to be caught and be charged with indecent exposure and committing a lewd act... :)

If someone has an orgasm in the forest does any one hear, or for that matter really care? Enjoy the great outdoors and great sexual explorations, but just remember not to take ourselves too seriously sometimes. I mean really!

Great article! Thanks Josey, not only are you smart and sexy but also responsible and concerned about your impact on the planet. I think that is (and you are) incredibly hot! Every little bit counts and every little bit more that we can do to be more green offsets for the nay-sayers and deny-ers of what is clearly a global issue. This (still) patriarchal, puritan and consumer driven wasteful society we live in is changing very slowly, but it is changing. I'm hoping we don't leave an insurmountable mess for the next generation. I wish there were more like you!
