The vision of the timeless Dianne Keaton in Baby Boom -- now a retro film made 20 years ago (!?) --warms my heart.
If you forget what the film's about or haven't seen it, picture the movie's poster: With one arm carrying a baby and the other clutching a briefcase, Diane Keaton's character JC manages fabulously to keep an eye on the prize: juggling baby and career with ease and success.
Wow! I wish I could make it look as easy as JC.
Juggling childcare and work can be challenging. If you send your kid to daycare and like the facility, it's wonderful to have the reassurance your child is having good care. If you send your kid to daycare, you may also know that "the drop off" can potentially be one of the most stressful events in your day. (The "pick up" is another thing entirely.)
The other day after dropping off my kid and arriving into work I realized ... I brought his sleep blanket into work.
Now, for all the parents out there who've never inadvertently taken a boo-boo or a teddy or a pow-pow into work as opposed to dropping it off with your kid, way to go! You have my complete admiration.
As for the others, you'll know it's crazy-making to take time out of an already booked day to dash downtown so that you can drop off your kid's blanket before nap-time without him being the wiser.
How wonderful life is with these little ones. They do force us indeed to perform the most amazing juggling acts.
