You haven’t been able to stomach anything more exotic than mashed potatoes or soda crackers in weeks—a total turnaround for someone who is generally the diva of all things hot and spicy. What's up with that?
Blame it on early pregnancy hormones, specifically rising levels of hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin—the hormone that makes the pregnancy test turn positive and that heightens your sensitivity to smell so much that you gag each time you walk past the office coffee pot.
Fortunately, you’re not destined to shop in the bland foods aisle at the grocery store forever. Odds are you’ll be able to expand your food repertoire by the time you head into the second trimester. Of course, as with anything else pregnancy-related, the exact timing varies from woman to woman and from pregnancy to pregnancy.
