Q. We had lots of late nights in the summer and now I’m dreading getting my children back into a proper bedtime routine. Do you have any tips?
Number one tip: start tonight! You know it’s going to be a major chore to get the kids out of bed on that first day of school (or the day after the first day of school, when the first-day adrenaline has worn off), so start easing them into a saner bedtime now. Move your kids’ bedtime back by 15 minutes per night and stick with consistent bedtimes and wakeup times seven days a week (yes, even on weekends). The payoff will be better rested kids who are a little less grumpy during that first week back to school. It will be so worth it.
