I overheard some girls talking when I was walking through the hallway. I know this is sneaky and the fact that I was behind a door is different than sitting down somewhere and listening to people talk to try to talk to them or you just happen to be there. I have no experience with girls.....I never been on a date and I never had a girl that was really a friend...more like acquaintances or short term people I associate myself with I guess i'm just trying to figure them out since I can't seem to get a date

Perhaps I've seen one to many horror movies about a teen girl home alone but im genuinly scared right now. Im only 14 but my mom lives an hour away and my dad works nights! He started working nights like during the summer but i was never worried because i was always 1 mile away from my grandparents and my aunt so i knew they could be here in a matter of minutes. either that or on nights he had to work i'd just spend the night with them. But tonight my dad wont be back for hours and my aunt is out of town and my grandparents went out to eat with some long lost relatives ( i was not invited ) so im very paranoid as you can tell. Every noise freaks me out (which there are many because even though its the country i live in a busy neighborhood. how do i deal with this? all my family is either at dinner 30 min away and no where near ready to finish, out of town on buisness or (my moms side of the family) lives 4 states away!! IM ONLY 14!!! I talked to my dad but he wont work days so i have to deal with it but my aunt is a cop and this city isnt exactly safe so please help me!!! How do i get through the night without being scared?

So earlier today, this guy asked me out. Hey guess what! we're going out now ! Now, I'm going through some problems. I'm bengali[if you don't know what that is, loook it up foool!] and hes black. so we're completely different, I dont know why he'd go for a girl like me . But I really really like him. Its being so awkward for me , and Im not racist, but its playing around with my hormones; getting me mad, some of his black friends come up to mee & they're like; "dayymm , didn't know you liked niggaaas" I try to ignore them. But also, a lot of people aren't liking us together. I was gonna be with him at lunch, but I saw him with his "brothaaas" ; He said he wanted to chill with me , BUT its really affecting everything. So I chilled with my bestfriend, and stayed away from him. the only alone time we have, are some passing periods, when no-one's looking . He said to give them time, and they'll get over it. but it annoys the shit out of me. D:

  • What do I do if my ex-boyfriend is getting over me but I can't get over him?

I'm 17 and my ex is 19. We were together for one year. He is obviously getting over me as he started college recently at a university and he's added a few girls he goes to school with on Facebook. Me, on the otherhand, I haven't met any guys after him and I'm just always thinking about him so it's hard to get over him. I hate that he's meeting all these girls and I'm not meeting any new guys that I'm interested in. I'm kind of jealous. What should I do?

The Three Biggest Holiday Discipline Traps

Sidestep these three holiday discipline traps and you'll spare yourself and your loved ones a lot of holiday drama.

By Ann Douglas

‘Tis the season when cookies get their very own food group, wish lists take on a life of their own, and regular routines can end up missing in action. So how do you keep total anarchy from erupting at the very time of year when your own stress-o-meter is in overdrive? By steering clear of the top three holiday discipline traps, that’s how.

The “okay, well have it then!” discipline trap. You’ve been the model of parental patience all afternoon long, repeatedly reminding your eight year old that you’re not shopping for toys for him today. You’re hanging out in Toyland so that he can finish shopping for his younger brother. The problem is he’s determined to spend the remaining $20 in his holiday budget on a nice shiny toy truck for himself. You’ve been listening to him whine and cajole for over an hour when finally you snap. “Fine then, buy it for yourself. I just want to get out of this place.” Your son grins from ear to ear—and why shouldn’t he? He just won the battle. And not only have you taught him that “no” doesn’t necessarily mean “no.” You’ve taught him that persistence pays off. He just has to drive you crazy for an hour or more and he’ll get what he wants in the end. Bet you can’t wait for his next request....

The “I’m going to leave you here at the mall” discipline drama trap. You’ve no doubt seen this particular family drama play out. Who knows? Maybe you’ve even had a leading role. After a child throw a total fit in the checkout line, a thoroughly exasperated parent threatens to leave that child behind. The biggest thing wrong with using this particular “discipline” approach it’s that it’s not really a discipline approach at all. Discipline implies teaching and your child isn’t going to learn anything from the experience, other than that you don’t follow through on what you say you’re going to do. (Bye, bye, parenting credibility.) And if your child does believe the threat, you’ve just put your child through a pretty scary experience just to quell a temper tantrum. So don’t let the frustration of being stuck in line with an antsy child cause you to momentarily take leave of your usual parenting good sense. It so isn't worth it.

Choosing a punishment that punishes other family members, too. Saying that everyone has to miss the premiere of the season’s hottest holiday movie really is cruel and unusual punishment for those siblings who weren't involved in singing the swear-word versions of holiday carols over the phone to Grandma and Grandpa. Choose a consequence that’s linked to the offense in question and that doesn’t result in too much sibling collateral damage and the entire family will have a much happier holiday season. You'll also make those particularly lyrics a lot less memorable. And that's the whole point, isn't it?
