DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER
Stemming from Greek, Roman and Egyptian tradition-cord rings were replaced with iron and eventually gold-the engagement ring has been a part of history since 1477. Punctuated by Hollywood glamour more than a half-century ago when Marilyn Monroe famously sung "Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend," our torrid love affair with the fabulous gem remains true. Here, the newest rings to celebrate love and eternity!
ROMANCING THE STONE
True love is as rare as the pink diamond. And for the chic blushing bride-to-be it is just the right hue. First hitting the radar in 2002 when J. Lo flaunted a 6-carat octagon sparkler from Ben Affleck, the rose-tinted gem has become the It-stone. Birks' new Amorique Pink engagement ring-set in trend-setting 18-karat pink gold-with a pink pave of diamonds and a 1-carat plus centre diamond is as decadent as they come.
Birks Amorique pink diamond engagement ring is available at Birks boutiques in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal
OUT OF THE BLUE
Birds of a feather flock together and when it comes to luxury, Tiffany & Co. rules the roost. Case in point: the iconic jeweler's new Bezet Collection of engagement bling. The ultimate in classic elegance with a modern platinum setting, the distinctive styles are available in round, heart, pear or princess cut diamonds. And yes, there's also a matching wedding band. Hey, a girl can dream.
FRENCH KISS
This season Van Cleef & Arpels plays homage to the bride with their collection of five symbolically-named rings including our fave, the Opèra, a diamond solitaire on a "lyre" (Musical instrument) shaped platinum band studded with small round diamonds inspired by the love songs of the opera.
Van Cleef & Arpels rings are available exclusively at Birks.
NORTHERN ICE
Two rings are better than one with Toronto designer Myles Mindham's new architectural princess-cut dazzler, surrounded by 144 round full cut diamonds in pavé settings on an 18-karat white and pink gold band. The idea behind the design is to have one ring for both engagement and wedding. With over three carats in all, we are definitely on-board.
