TORONTO - Toronto's Irish community will gather at an east-end pub on Wednesday to raise money for a grieving family from Ireland.
Paraic McKeown, a 20-year-old student in Toronto on a work visa, drowned last week while swimming with friends in Lake Ontario.
McKeown, from Dundalk, Ireland, was to return home on Tuesday.
Aiden Doyle, who owns the Seanachai Irish Pub and is also from Dundalk, hopes to raise up to $7,000 for McKeown's family to transport their son's body back to Ireland for burial.
Paraic's parents and older sister flew to Toronto after the drowning and remain in the city.
A spokesman for the pub says it has a 100-seat capacity but many more tickets have already been sold.
