STAY
The Lord Nelson, Hotel & Suites (lordnelsonhotel.com). Built in 1928, the Lord Nelson, Hotel & Suites remains one of Halifax’s grandest hotels. Located downtown and situated directly across from the Public Gardens, this historic hotel offers 261 guest rooms and suites, all recently refurbished. Complete with charming venue spaces, this hotel is a beautiful backdrop for your wedding. Tip: Say “I do” at the Lord Nelson and take advantage of their on-site wedding planner.
The Waverly Inn (waverleyinn.com). Originally home to a wealthy merchant, this Victorian-style home was converted into a hotel in 1876. With just 34 rooms, each with its own unique decor, this très petite charmer has become one of Halifax’s most romantic and cozy stays.
SPA
Spirit Urban Spa (spiritspa.ca). Plan to have a little pre-wedding TLC and book yourself into Halifax’s premiere day spa, Spirit Urban Spa. Offering a full range of services, from facials and massages (the Jade Stone massage is our fave) to day-of hair and makeup, this urban oasis is a beauty must-do. Tip: Arrive early to enjoy the spa’s outdoor patio overlooking the harbourfront.
WED
Maritime Museum of the Atlantic (museum.gov.ns.ca). With artifacts dating back to 1850, the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic surrounds your guests with Halifax’s rich maritime heritage. Located on the harbour (The Small Craft Gallery offers views of the water), the museum can accommodate as many as 250 people.
Tall Ship Silva (tallshipsilva.com). Sail into the sunset on your very own 130-foot schooner and dance under the stars while enjoying the Halifax skyline. Recently refurbished, the Tall Ship Silva is loaded with all the amenities to give you and your guests a night to remember. The ship can accommodate up to 150 people.
Old Red Schoolhouse, Peggy’s Cove (peggyscove.ca). With its famous lighthouse, quaint fishing village and one of the most beautiful (and highly photographed) sunsets in Canada, it’s easy to imagine yourself saying “I do” in Peggy’s Cove, located just 45 minutes outside of Halifax. The tiny town’s most popular venue: the Old Red Schoolhouse. Built in 1839, this historic building can accommodate an intimate affair of up to 40 people.
POSE
Halifax Public Gardens (halifaxpublicgardens.ca). Canada’s first public gardens opened their now famous gates in 1867. Since then, visitors have strolled along the lush pathways of this formal Victorian garden looking for a picture-perfect backdrop.
Granville Mall (1854 - 1895 Granville St.). A bustling pedestrian street lined with heritage buildings, restaurants and galleries, Granville Mall’s blend of then and now offers a unique urban ambience for your pictures.
The Halifax Harbourfront. Tall ships, park benches, the boardwalk and the Alexander Keith’s Brewery—need we say more? Start at the foot of Sackville Street (Sackville Landing) and work your way north to Purdy’s Wharf. Tip: Have an ice cream with your bridal party at Cows, a Halifax must!
