  • Were not dating and he sent me a text that said I miss you?

    Singles & Dating - 5 hours ago

    Additional Details

He asked did I miss him too.. I told him the truth, which was no I did not. So why is he so mad? I mean I like talking to him and everything, and it's not that I meant it too be rude but I talk to him everyday so what's there to miss? I know this sounds really harsh, but I can't help the fact that I'm really blunt. My honesty is often misconstrued as being mean. Similar incidents have often happened with this person before so how am I supposed to talk to him? It's like he wants me to tell him what he wants to here (lies). If that's the case sorry. Not having it.
  • Why won't my bf ask me to marry him??? Part 2.?

    Singles & Dating - 5 hours ago

    Additional Details

We have been together for 4 yrs. In the 1st 6mth's he wanted too(didn't actually have a ring just talked about it a lot) and I didn't cause it was to fast. We have a wonderful relationship. He has taken my son in as his own. We have lived together for 3.5 years. We do almost everything together. When he goes away on trips, like hunting/camping and I ask him questions about it, he automatically resorts to "I don't trust him" and says that is why we are at a stand still. The thing is that I do trust him, I am slightly insecure and a little nosy so I ask questions about their plans, etc. isn't that normal of someone who cares? I think it's an excuse, I don't believe he thinks that. I don't know what to do...I feel used and I am starting to think that he is waiting for someone better. He's really good to me and my son, I hope that's not the case. I am tired of the embarrassment when asked "why hasn't he married you yet?"...now I am asking myself that question. The whole "why buy the cow when the milk is free" is haunting me. I am to afraid to change anything because he is stubborn (so am I) and I am afraid he will just let me go because he will think that I don't want him, it seems too risky. I love the idea of getting away for the weekend, but I already did that, he always misses me alot (calls, texts, etc) right now he is away hunting and he calls and texts me. I usually text him but I really haven't this time cause I don't want to be viewed as none trusting. I'm hurt and I don't know how to get what I want...and if I don't get that I don't think my relationship will stay together since the feeling of insecurity grows inside of me with time :( I don't want to mess this up but I don't want to be just a gf either.
  • Guys... should I tell him or not?

    Singles & Dating - 5 hours ago

    Additional Details

So... my wonderful boyfriend proposed to me - and I most definitely said yes! The thing is - I don't really like my engagement ring. I didn't tell him - I was just glad to be engaged and figured I would just grow to love the ring - but it's 2 months later and I still don't! Guys I want your perspective cause I really don't want him to be hurt or to think I don't appreciate all the effort he went to in picking it - should I tell him I don't like it or not?!? Should prob mention - We'd both always wanted him to pick the ring for me - so I just asked him to follow 1 rule - "no white gold please"... it's white gold! (he said he forgot! hehe) Plus he gave it to me after the warranty ran out! Oh dear - what to do!?!? Oh - and I do love him and am greatful to be marrying him - that's why I don't want to hurt him! How much I like my engagement ring has nothing to do with how much I love my fiance. I just don't know if I should pretend to like this forever when I really don't!

Shoppers and small businesses plan to spend less on gifts this holiday season

By Tali Arbel, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

TIGHT-FISTED?: A third of U.S. adults said they would spend less this year than they did in 2008 on gifts, while 49 per cent would spend about the same amount, according to a Consumer Reports poll on holiday shopping.

Meanwhile, almost two-thirds of respondents said they were planning to "cut back" on total holiday expenses, which include travel plans, presents and holiday decorations.

More Americans are also "regifting," or passing on a gift they got to someone else - 36 per cent of adults this year say they've done so, compared with 31 per cent last year and 24 per cent in 2007.

The survey polled 1,000 U.S. adults from Oct. 15 to 18.

It is worth noting, though, that Americans who plan to spend less don't always do so. The survey found that of those Americans who made a budget for last year's holiday gift buying, 44 per cent spent more than they had intended.

The poll also said six per cent of adults still carry holiday debt from last year, unchanged from last year. If extrapolated to the broader population of the country, that implies 13.5 million consumers are still carrying debt from last year's holidays.

Clothing and electronics remained the top gifts to give, the survey said.

The survey, conducted randomly by telephone, had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.

NO BONUS: More small-business employees can expect no end-of-year bonuses or gifts for 2009.

A recent survey of small business owners or managers in the U.S. showed fewer of them planning gifts or cash for their workers.

"Business owners are still feeling pinched cash wise," said American Express business adviser Alice Bredin. AmEx's small business division conducted the survey.

Last year, 44 per cent of those surveyed said employees would get an end-of-year bonus. This year, only 31 per cent did. Even fewer are planning raises: 16 per cent, compared with 30 per cent last year.

Meanwhile, in 2008, 46 per cent of owners or managers said employees would get holiday gifts. This year, it's 35 per cent.

The business owners or managers surveyed oversaw companies with fewer than 100 employees.

According to the U.S. government's Small Business Administration, companies with under 500 workers employed about half of all private sector employees as of 2006.

The survey also found that, of those still giving a present, 42 per cent said they'll give fewer or cheaper gifts to customers and employees.

The businesses are cutting back on employee compensation and presents before client gifts, Bredin said, because customer presents can be important marketing tools.

"If there are no customers, there is no discussion about employees."

In the survey, nearly half the companies surveyed planned to give presents to customers, about the same as last year. Those surveyed said they would spend $455, on average, on the holiday presents. In 2008, small business owners planned to spend $457 - and in fall 2007, it was an average of $1,483.

In one bit of good news, the survey did show the number of workers who would be getting time off over the holidays remained the same as last year, at 47 per cent.

The random survey of 500 small business owners or managers was conducted over the phone from Oct. 6 to 14. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.
